SENIOR UX DESIGNER

Form + Function

Hi, I’m Emily, a senior UX Designer with an emphasis in UX Research and a lifelong learner. I’m always diving into something new or thinking of ways to improve what already exists. “Why?” is a question that pops into my mind at least a million times per day.

My expertise lies in decoding really complicated processes into simple experiences.

When I’m not designing, I’m: surfing, skating, getting my PHD from TikTok University, learning about AI or hanging out with my baby kitty, Keno!

Research Focused

I love research — it’s the most efficient way to build a product that users actually want and need (not just want you think they do!).

Clever + Clear

Everything in my life is aesthetically pleasing yet also very systems-oriented. I like living in-between the two worlds, where clever and clear are balanced.

Fun Seeker

Really a key pillar of what motivates me everyday. I love finding joy in the little moments or challenging myself to make a daunting task eventful.

“What sets you apart from other designers?”

My design process stands out due to a love for thorough research and a step-by-step approach.

Unlike many designers, I embrace research as the most efficient path to a robust final product.

Regular check-ins with developers and project managers prevent isolation and attachment to ideas, resulting in a more effective and efficient design process.

“What’s your UX origin story?”

I was longing for something more creative and mentally stimulating. I saw an Instagram ad for General Assembly’s UX bootcamp. I had never heard of UXD but followed my curiosity, went to the informational session, and well, the rest is history!

Over 10 Years of Experience +
What I’ve Learned Along the Way

I’m not one to travel a straight line — creativity, fulfillment, meaning and happiness, comes from being open to new experiences, experimentation + non-linear trajectories

CORPORATE GIRL ERA

CVS Health / Oak Street Health

This era improved my corporate etiquette. It taught me the advantages of working in-house versus for an agency. It was a more relaxed speed to refine systems and processes. Working in healthcare is POWERFUL! It’s so rewarding to design software that is saving lives!

ENTREPRENUER ERA

Salt + Soul Collective

This was my larger than life, entrepreneurial time to shine. I only meant to freelance for a couple of months to make extra money while living Bali, but then before I knew it, I created an entire branding + UX studio. This season taught me about taking initiative, thinking 5 steps ahead and the importance of listening to user’s needs.

TECH START UP ERA

Bumble

When Bumble first launched, I was new to the city and used it for friends. I met my bestfriend (to this day) on BumbleBFF. As a success story, I wrote to Whitney Wolfee and she asked me to be a Field Marketer. This showed me first hand to power of following your dreams, the rise of women leaders in tech and showed me how tech can create new opportunities that you wouldn’t have otherwise.

AD AGENGY ERA

Kargo

Ah, the hustle of the ad agency world!! To this day, my co-workers are still some of my besties. This job taught me the importance of advocating for yourself, setting boundaries and the power of an amazing company culture.

NEW YORK CITY ERA

Viacom, MTV

Working for a legacy brand was incredible!! Walking up to 1515 Broadway is forever sketched in my heart — I made it! This experience taught me that things NEVER go according to plan.

PR GIRL ERA

ABPR / New York Fashion Week

The coolest experience ever!! I helped design a backdrop that was featured in the show. This experience helped me to engage fully with my creative side and showed me that I could make a career out of being creative.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Take a break!

The power of stepping away to clear your mind is POWERFUL. Nothing is worse than spinning your wheels and getting nowhere.I love a good beach walk, skate or anything NOT in front of a screen to shake up my ideas + get a refresh.

  • Virtual Dr Appt Live Sign Consent Forms

I was in a virtual doctor appointment and the provider said “Ok, you’re going to get a pop up to confirm we went over these details.”Then, bam! A pop up appears where I could sign my name, click save.Right there and then, everything was signed, sealed and delivered!

  • Yes, I’m a middle child!

When I say it comes naturally to me, I mean I was coerced into this role since the moment my little brother was born. I love compromising, discussing, hearing people out and finding resolutions where everyone feels happy and seen.

  • Seek to Understand

While negative feedback can feel so personal in the moment, I try to understand where the person is coming from. They usually are bringing up a valid concern in regards to a user or business need. I ask alot of questions and clarify, by the end, I’m usually grateful for the pushback because ultimately it helps to develop a stronger product.

  • The Research Lab

I noticed there was a gap in my team’s design process — we were not utilizing research enough.

I launched The Research Lab to bringing new methodologies (and FUN!) to research. Now my team is stoked on research due to new systems and structures established through TRL.

  • Salsa verde!! You don’t know you’re missing it until you try it and then you’ll never have a taco again without it!
